I met another mixed race child

Post by explorer »

I met another mixed race child. The mother has not seen the father since soon after she became pregnant. The child is 5 months old. The father is barang. I think French, but maybe another Western country. They met in Phnom Penh. She has moved back to the village.

Most likely there was never genuine love from the father. Probably just having fun with the girl.

There may be a small possibility he wants to meet her again.

Maybe he didnt know she was pregnant. If he knows, maybe he wants to get together again.

I dont normally carry my phone with me, so I didnt get a photo.

She is a nice lady. It looks like the child will grow up with a lot of love, but probably be poor, and not get a good education.

The New York Times published an editorial today that highlights the dilemma young women face when engaging in premarital sex and the "purity culture" that many Christians subscribe to.

"One piece of youth-group folklore was a “game” in which a cup would be passed around a circle. At each turn, someone would spit in the cup, until the last person had a cup full of spit. “Would you want to drink this?” the youth pastor intoned. “No. And that’s how others will see you if you sleep around.” Young women, who were expected to manage men’s lust as well as their own, fared the worst."

If you see the abandoned mother again, please tell her for me that I don 't see her like a cup full of spit. The child loved, poor and likely to be uneducated, will be ok because of the vast majority of Cambodian children are poor and uneducated. This child is loved.

I am only taking a guess at what is likely to happen. None of us can predict the future. I only met the mother for a short time, but she seemed like a good person. Sometimes you go back to places like this, and things didnt go the way you expected. It could be better, or it could be worse.

She was at a shop in a village where I stopped to buy a drink.
