What is 420? Excuse my ignorance.

420 is a symbol for smoking up. Originally it was 4:20PM after school to Lite Up. Then became April 20th. I read that Denver Police busted 50 ppl at a concert for smoking publicly although legal otherwise.

420's origin IS known.
the term 420 originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smoking wiseacres who called themselves the Waldos, who are now pushing 50 [60?]. The term was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire generation.

Just did a quick research about 420. It can't believe The state has such festival. It looks so much fun i guess. Then will many American weed smokers will travel to any states where smoking weed is legal right?

It is actually never legal to smoke in public spaces, but the authorities tolerate it for 420 in most major cities (except maybe in the south). They would have to arrest thousands of people and all the bad publicity + paperwork isn't worth it. 420 festivals have actually served the legalization cause really well. If it weren't for these yearly protests, we would probably be years behind on marijuana reform. They show that large numbers of marijuana smokers can congregate and generally cause less mayhem than any sports match or beer festival.
