Getting stale in Cambodia

How long, assuming you have no family/business ties here, do people intend to stay for? After living here the last few years I've grown a little bored of it and am moving on next month. Just seem to be getting pissed off at things that never used to annoy me and fancy a change of scenery.

Been through the cycle of getting pissed off in places then moving to another country. I've come to the conclusion it's me, not them or there, that's the issue.

Having said that, I'd sooner be pissed off with everything in SEA than calmly going about my day in the west.

Agreed, and I'm staying in SEA. Just had enough of Phnom Penh for now, which surprises me as 6 months ago I had no desire to leave whatsoever.

People change with time and experience.

But some things never changed, I once travelled 25,000 KMs from home to escape myself only to end up in another place going "Oh, fucking you again, you followed me all the way here?"

As an old, good friend used to say:

"Be careful not to seek geographical solutions for psychological problems."

(I think he stole it from Hemmingway)

I have my days too, but most of them are due to cultural mis-understandings or my own stupidity. Also remember the things you enjoyed doing back home and try to bring them here.

I did 2 years in Phnom Penh, was enough. Rarely go there now. Guess I'm a country bumpkin at heart.

When I first came here I said I would never stay more than 5 years as everyone I knew who had, was either an alcoholic, dead or had totally lost the plot.

Unfortunately, I've been here 15 years now and I'm probably a mix of all three.
