This article is amusing on many levels but the particular quote is a scream:

https://www.phnompenhpost.com/business/ ... -exchanges

However, he asserted that Indian visitors could be a tad more frugal, querulous and demanding, requiring extra attention. “Due to the class divisions of Indian society, most tourists consider themselves as deities who require the utmost care.”

I'm guessing Khmers did not readily buy into the concept of high caste Indians.

I've both been to India myself and hung out with Indians in Cambodia. Most (not all) of them see themselves as highly important, gracing the rest of the world with a visit from the superior-and-most-amazing-in-every-way country of India. India has the biggest and best everything, always just a bit bigger and better than everywhere else. I used to get very annoyed by this arrogance and superiority complex but once I actually visited India, it made more sense to me.

Purely from a hoteliers perspective: Indian guests are the worst. Demanding, stingy, and rude. Generalisation? Yes. But after 35 years in the business, I can generalise a little.

Thai's have saying;
If you come across a cobra and an Indian in the forest,
Kill the Indian first

Having spent lots of time in India, ( cycled lots of the country) i'd have to agree 90% of the time

Nearly as bad as a particular cohort of middle class Poms - the class conscious ones with a chip on their shoulder.
As soon as they are on holidays abroad and have their own "servants" to order around, they start thinking they are the ruling class.
'Thing is - the ruling class generally have far more class than these wannabes when it comes to being demanding and rude.
1st Class twats, that's about all.

East or West, India is best!

They really do believe that.

I went to New Delhi (Karol Bagh) in 1998. Complete shithole, a bit like here, but without normal bars, decent restaurants, fun available women or anything else that makes this place enjoyable. Even the food was dodgy, I never saw filth like it.

I left after 7 days (of a 12 day trip) and never went back. It put me off third world countries and as a result missed out on SE Asia for another 12 years. Never forgave them.

Yeah, India's a dump. 7 days there was two too many. Cut that trip short.

It is only a middle class hang-up; the ascent from lower to upper middle class or the management of the decent (gone skint)

The lower classes don't want any and the upper classes don't need any.

I myself am classily classless.
