Five Vietnamese jailed for 3 to 8 years for making fake condoms and lubricants
Cambodia News, Ho Chi Minh City: A Ho Chi Minh City court on Tuesday sentenced five people to three to eight years in prison for making thousands of fake condoms worth 6.7 billion VND (292,220 USD). .
Truong Chi Thanh, 30, the mastermind, was sentenced to eight years in prison, while his business partner Pham Thanh Truyen, 31, was sentenced to seven years. Both were charged with "producing and trading in counterfeit goods." Another three people were sentenced to three years in prison each.
In July 2018, Thanh rented a house in District 12 to store unbranded Chinese condoms. He later sold the products, branding them as Durex, OK or Sure.
Thanh, who confessed to the allegations, expanded his operation by hiring a female partner for 4 million VND in Thu Dau Mot town of Binh Duong province.
He then hired two other men for 5 million VND to run their own fake condom factories in Thu Duc and Go Vap districts.
The suspects were arrested in June 2019 after police raided several locations in Ho Chi Minh City.
