Your key moment from 2020?

What will you most remember about 2020? The defining moment for me was at midday on 24th March, when I was still in NZ. The entire country came to a standstill, and we sat in front of our TVs to hear Jacinda Ardern tell us what was happening in the world, how it affected New Zealand, and what we had to do to fix it. Her declaration of a State of Emergency was in her usual low-key style, but with real strength and power. At that moment we knew two things: that our country would be safe, and that when Jacinda came up for re-election in September it would be a landslide. Both things came to pass as they had been foretold. Whatever else I remember about 2020, that moment will always be with me.

23:59:59, 31-12-2020. In the forlorn but still slightly optimistic hope that 2021 will be better. caveat- release from the sanatorium is the 2nd!

Hovering my finger over the mouse, just one click away from returning home, and after several of the most agonising minutes of my life, deciding to close the browser instead and stick it out here.

One of the best decisions I've ever made.

China official covid-19 deaths: 4,634

America official covid-19 deaths: 332K

But I've never seen on any media dead bodies being picked up off the street...

The first confinement (2 months, starting march 15) as a personal blessing, as it accelerated my plans.
It gave me all the necessary time to consolidate my son and wife's language levels at home, which allowed me later to quit my boring job with kid-friendly working hours and average pay.
Now passing a degree in import-export admin & sales, with 4 foreign languages and an expertise on south-east asia to back me up.
Highly recruiting now in my area, as there is many changes due to covid, and new market opportunities.
A few months left to study, and back in the job arena with a stronger shield, a sharper sword, and still acceptable kid-friendly working hours.
Anyway, dancing life. Like a pogo, or a tango.

Deciding to actually do what I’ve wanted to do for the last 8-10 years. Taking a step backwards to take a step forwards. I can’t pinpoint the exact date. But it happened in 2020. I suppose a little like @Ghostwriter. And I have no regrets, save for my holiday plans in Cambodia being ruined.

I'd have to say my key moment was getting back into Thailand overland from Laos about two weeks before the borders closed. While I had anticipated the closure and cut my trip short to make sure I'd get back in, I wouldn't have thought that I won't be traveling again internationally at all for the remainder of the year.
