Westec Media Limited is the only company licensed and endorsed by the Ministry of Culture in Cambodia for the distribution of foreign content. The company has also engaged a legal firm as a panel lawyer to protect the intellectual property and copyrights of the contents assigned to it.

Westec Media Limited (WML) was incorporated in 2011 as a distributor of films in Cambodia. The company’s first movie released was Transformers Dark of the Moon in 3D and in a digital format.

Since then WML has quickly grown to be the largest distributor of theatrical content in the country with over 150 titles released within its first two and a half year. These titles are drawn from some of the best studios and distributors in the world including Hollywood studios such as Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures Corporation, 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Bros Entertainment titles, Lionsgate Entertainment Corporation, Hong Kong studios such as Emperor Motion Pictues, Edko Films Ltd , Thai studios such Sahamongkul Film International, Phranakorn Film, GMM Tai Hub (GTH) and more. Our commitment to strict operating guidelines, integrity in reporting and always looking to improve on our operations has allowed us to build strong relationships with our content partners.

In 2013, WML has ventured into supporting local film production by investing into new productions with revenues going towards further productions. This year we have funded and released 2 titles, The Two Tiger Girls and Run with a commitment to support more productions and projects in 2014 onwards. Beyond funding these two titles, we have also distributed various Cambodian titles, sharing marketing strategies and information on how to get their titles released in the cinemas. Through these efforts, we hope that we can begin releasing Cambodian content to international markets again in the future.

I don't understand. Was it actually banned or did they just decide not to show it? If it was banned, when and who by? If not, why did you say it was in the thread title? It looks like you've just copy pasted this from somewhere else, can you link the source?

Yeah, I don't see anything in there indicating a ban.

But who banned it? The Ministry or the movie distributer?

If I'm not mistaken, all movies shown and to be filmed in Cambodia are supposed to get the green light from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.

Also the Jai Kon's message sounds like they have been informed AFTER they had planned to show the movie, because there are 13 people who won pre-screening tickets for the movie, but since it's now banned, the company will give them pre-screening tickets for another movie.

Excellent info, Joon, thx!

Yeah, seems things have recently changed since Sex Tape was approved last year.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with all the international attention Cambodia has recently gotten this week about naked westerners running around the country, LoL, and violating their strict customs and traditions. Image

And to be noted, Malaysia also banned the film Fifty Shades of Grey.
