Spreading "The Word" in Ta Khmau

CAMBODIA
Proclaiming the Word for the first time in Ta Khmau, home to five Christians
Fr Giovanni Tulino, PIME missionary, talks about his story. His living room is a kindergarten in the morning, an oratory in the afternoon, and a chapel on Sunday.
Phnom Penh (AsiaNews) – Ta Khmau is a city about 10 kilometres south of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Its Catholic community includes two priests, five Christians and eight catechumens.
Fr Giovanni Tulino (pictured), a 41-year-old priest with the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME), has spent almost six years in the country. For him, this “is a land of primal evangelisation. There are people here who have never really heard about Jesus,” he told AsiaNews.
Two years ag, Mgr Olivier Michel Marie Schmitthaeusler, Apostolic Vicar of Phnom Penh, sent him to this place to support the local pastor, a French priest with the Society for Foreign Missions of Paris (MEP), who has been in the country for 20 years.
“In places like these, a missionary becomes part of a story written by others before him; he is called to continue building on their foundations,” Fr Tulino explained.
Ta Khmau is a new pastoral area, founded only five years ago. "It was an intuition of the bishop. This is Phnom Penh’s first large suburb which, through new roads and urban sprawl, has effectively incorporated it.
“Many residents of the capital are moving to Ta Khmau, because living is cheaper; moreover, there is still land and there are factories. For this reason, Mgr Schmitthaeusler saw it as a place of evangelisation.
“The first to arrive was my confrere, Fr Mario Ghezzi, when there was still no Church presence. Mario bought a house and started the first missionary activities.”

Re: Spreading "The Word" in Ta Khmau
Someone should spread the word that Takhmau is closer to 12 km south of PP. Now 2 Km is not worth arguing about, but I have walked the full distance many times in the past, and I can assure you that the extra 2 Km makes a big difference.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Re: Spreading "The Word" in Ta Khmau
I did a search on PIME and this came up about a PIME priest in a child sex abuse case in the US. Not saying that all PIMEs are child abusers, but there is at least one named here, Brother Neil Kalina, and that's one too many. These people are working with the poorest of the poor, their words.

LANSING — Five priests or former priests with ties to Michigan dioceses have been charged with 21 counts of criminal sexual conduct involving five separate victims in connection with the Michigan attorney general’s investigation into sexual abuse among clergy in the state.
During a news conference May 24 at the G. Mennen Williams Building near the grounds of the state Capitol in Lansing, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced her office had authorized charges against Timothy Crowley; Fr. Neil Kalina, PIME; Fr. Vincent DeLorenzo; Fr. Patrick Casey; and Fr. Jacob Vellian in connection with the investigation.
Fr. Kalina, 63, was arrested May 23 in Littlerock, California.
As a member of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME), a religious institute whose North American headquarters are in Detroit, Fr. Kalina served briefly at St. Kieran Parish and St. Ephrem Parish in Sterling Heights, both between 1984 and 1986, a statement from the Archdiocese of Detroit said.
Fr. Kalina left active ministry in 1993, and an allegation of abuse was brought against him in 2017, the archdiocese said.

Church missionaries from the UK are also eager to save souls in Cambodia:
Church’s mission to help congregation in Cambodia
17 Mar 2020
Influence Church
WHILE dale residents were struggling to cope with Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis, two members of the Barnard Castle congregation were experiencing a very different type of weather during a ten-day period in mid-February.
With temperatures reaching 37C, the two, Nathan Thorpe and David Foster, were part of a team from Influence Church taking part in a mission trip to Cambodia.
The team worked with a church in one of the suburbs of Phnom Penh which also runs an outreach into one of the villages an hour away from the city.
In both locations the team ran children’s, youth, ladies and leadership meetings as well as taking the three Sunday services. They also made home visits, distributing food parcels to some of the poorest families and praying with them.
One of the emphases of the church is to provide education and training for young people to enable them to gain good employment and minimise the risk of them being taken for sex trafficking and slavery.
