Dani Harries embarks on five-day Cambodia trek in aid of Tŷ Hafan, the children's hospice in Wales

A former head girl of Tenby's Greenhill School is putting her best foot forward on a 79 kilometre charity trek through Cambodia next month.

Dani Harries will be taking up the challenge for Tŷ Hafan, the children's hospice in Wales, which needs £4.5m every year to be able to keep its doors open.

The cause is particularly close to Dani's heart as for the past 11 months she has worked for Tŷ Hafan as its PR manager.

She said: "Although the challenge I'm taking on is nothing in comparison to the challenges the children and their families at the hospice face every day, I've been able to witness, first-hand, how much Tŷ Hafan means to them and how much of a difference even the smallest fundraising can make.

Dani, 25, originally from Broadmoor, will be amongst 25 people making the five-day trek between Siem Reap and Angkor Wat, and fundraising has already smashed the £50,000 mark.

From Broadmoor?! (the hospital for the criminally insane...)

Siem Reap to Angkor Wat is 5- 6 kilometers. And 79k in five days? Less than 16 kilometers a day? I hope they all survive that horrendous ordeal.....

If she is funding this out of her own pocket then i see no justification for mocking the lady for wanting to combine a trip to see angkor wat with a bit of fund raising for a worthy cause.

It becomes eminently more mockable should the whole venture be one giant freebie jaunt. With a bit of walking thrown in.

Probably better off doing the walk in Wales, its not short of mountains. Save about $1500 and give it to the charity. Still, good luck to her.

Not mocking her, but the description of the trek is a little over the top:

Between 21st-29th March - 24 fundraisers from across the UK will be travelling to Cambodia to spend 5 days trekking from Siem Reap to the ancient temple of Angkor Wat. They'll be aiming to raise close to £75,000 to help fund our vital services here at Ty Hafan.

We're so grateful to all of our trekkers taking on this incredible challenge to support our vision of a Wales where all children who may die in childhood live a fulfilling family life. We are also very grateful to the many supporters so generously sponsoring our trekkers! Diolch am eich cefnogaeth!

The team will be training hard over the next couple of weeks to ensure they are ready for the challenge of a lifetime!

Must be insane to be walking anywhere in this heat ........

Maybe im just a bit too baked this morning, but Im in Siem Reap and I live 7 kliks from Angkor so why is it taking her so long?. Is she just walking around in cirlces then? And its way too hot besides, take PassApp

Well good luck if she is paying for her own flight and hotel,, I think she will need to ditch the hat and buy a good mask though....
