Pagoda Dog Lost After Fireworks

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Pagoda Dog Lost After Fireworks

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Siem Reap: A monk has lost his dog after he went went into hiding during the fireworks this weekend. The dog is a neutered male called B'tuse and he is not stranger-friendly, so approach with caution. He comes from Wat Enkosai in Siem Reap.
REWARD ! Contact the phone number below if you see him.

Bread and circuses. And fireworks.

A pathetic modern easy way to have a public celebration.
Just like TV. Everybody can watch, instead of the community actually turning something on themselves.
Ubiquitous, tired and now just plain boring. And a culture killer.

Some of the crucial chemicals in fireworks are licensed in the west solely for use in fireworks, on the basis that they are still highly toxic but irreplaceable if you want big bright bangs for your buck.
Look for that stuff spread out all around your gardens, natural environment and school playgrounds. Sometimes breathable, sometimes in nuggets.

They terrify and send into a blind panic not only dogs. Those earth shifting, mortar-like booming thuds cause real tragedies for birds and other wildlife too. Usually totally undetected,

Parades, feasts, public parties, concerts, wild pagan bacchanalias of writhing naked bodies. Anything.
-but fireworks resemble culture, about the same way a hooker's bj resembles real sex - ie, not the real thing at all.

IMO only, and i know some of you are going to call me a ratbag greenie Grinch, trying to steal Christmas from the kids and their grandparents
- but maybe we could turn on real live spectacles instead, just like did before - when we called it "culture"
