The presenter, 50, said the experience happened during shooting in Cambodia.

Miss Perkins said the hermit, who then winked, was an 'absolute a******e'.

Yeah, "Namaste" is a handy phrase to have in Cambodia when you are getting molested by a guy who looks like Charles Manson or Ho Ch Minh's corpse.

In Cambodian culture, when someone does something others don't like, they normally don't say anything, but just smile and go along with it. As a result, people often do things which are unacceptable in other cultures. This is an example.
In case you are ever in a situation where someone does something you don't like, learn the word 'gom.' Gom means don't. If they don't listen, say it louder. When others around hear, they normally stop. You can even slap them gently (not to hurt them), to make it clear.

The series was reasonable and the scenery was tops. This part was uncomfortable and awkward as fuck. I would have thought the BBC would hold themselves to a higher standard and either stopped it happening or cut the scene.
She visited a minority village in the northeast that was under threat from illegal logging. There were sounds of chainsaws in the distance and only women present in the village... I'm thinking the men were doing the logging. Although, in light of this hermits behavior, maybe the men were banished for the day to be on the safe side..?
The namaste shit shows some ignorance, but she still got put in a shitty situation, in my view at the time.
On another note, one series i was impressed by was some of Joanna Lumley's Silk Road Adventure.

As far as I am aware - monks are not allowed to touch ladies...and vice versa - I could be wrong.
Is he a real monk?

Is putting the central part of many Khmers lives (pagodas etc) in a bad light..

Not a good one. I just watched the monk scene again on a shitty YouTube link (Season 1, Ep 2). I take back most of what I said. No major problemo from the monk in my refreshed view, maybe a little senile and lonely. In fact, I remember now she was being a bit insensitive throughout. Still, good scenery
