Spraying people with insecticide

Post by explorer »

In an attempt to reduce mosquitoes and dengue fever, Cambodians drive around in vehicles like this spraying.

Image

One of these drove through town recently, at a busy time of the day, spraying like in the picture. Hundreds of people were in places where they were forced to inhale the insecticide, and get it on their skin and clothes.

Cambodians have no idea how dangerous these chemicals are.

No doubt, there will be an increase in cancer rates among the people exposed to the insecticide, but there will be no way of actually knowing.

The authorities should ban all dangerous chemicals, until the people become educated and know how to use them safely.

It's better than getting Dengue or other insect borne diseases, obviously people should be notified before the sprayer comes through so they can avoid the worst fumes.

What incecticide are they spraying?
Earlier in the year the ministry of health were quoted as saying the spray was not harmful to humans.

Likely a relatively harmless synthetic pyrethroid.
If they were dangerous, class action lawsuits would run into billions in USA alone.
Roundup is already paying out enormously in out of court settlements.
Civil actions have much less stringent proofs than criminal cases.
Maybe you should do a little research before forming an opinion that you state as fact.
Dengue is a real hazard, and epidemic this year.

What do you suggest the do Explorer??

The northeastern province of Si Sa Ket, on the Cambodian border, has declared that the prevention and control of dengue fever required urgent attention throughout its area. Local health officials say they are now especially concerned about what will happen during the last three months of the annual wet season.

Yep, the government does it in the Philippines and well. I was surprised when I first saw it, but it's apparently harmless. Still, I'd rather step away fr the cloud as they're doing it.
