Visa overstay

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Visa overstay

Post by lucathenomad »

Hi all,
I am confused!
I was of the idea that visa overstay penalty was waivered until 1st July.
Today I go to my usual agent and was told that for EG visa this is not the case
My situation is:
was meant to fly back to Italy in march, borders were closed two days before my flight (for 2 weeks they were saying :evil6:),
visa expired 7th April.
So I owe 840$ to KH government.
Was not expected so I wanted to know,
1. Is it true I owe this, and if so,
2. What would happen if I go to airport for flight, play dumb and say I don't have the money.
Surely I would be blacklisted, but would they actually detain me?
My week has not started well :(

1. Yes
2. You’ll be arrested and put into detention.

Overstay fees are only for tourist visas. You have no excuse not to renew.
Don’t listen to Chinese whispers.

You wont win a playing dumb game with that lot at the airport. I think it is No Pay No Fly.

There is an Immigration department opposite the airport. It might be worth going to see them and know for sure. Agents might have agendas. The DoI might do you a favour, or might not, but at least you will know for sure. That way you can pay the day before you fly, get a receipt and you won't get delayed too much at the passport desk.

Tourist visas got a reprieve until 1 July, but EG EOSs had to renew one month at a time without (obviously) having to leave the country.

Hopefully they will be a bit lenient as although eg extensions are not usually extendable in country.... If the above is true, than basically you fucked urselve.
......Today I go to my usual agent and was told that for EG visa this is not the case...
why did you wait nearly 3 months to check??

Rather than crying / begging go with the attitude of contrition and hat in hand and very apologetic and that you had tried ( did you visit immigration before the extension was due to expire?)
to leave but
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

… it was closed so I could not check etc etc. (it probably was at that time)

Yes,I do realize it is my mistake.
And if you want I can give plenty of excuses, main one being I misunderstood the law and did not know (still don't) how long this bs will continue!
Anyway my fault and I will most probably have to pay up!
Just putting it on forum in hope someone on here gave me other ideas.
Again,I understand ignorance of the law is no excuse

I recall one of our members mentioning that in situations like this it can help to wear a low cut top. Though I'm not so sure it works for guys.
