Has anyone taken a Khmer to Japan?
Is it easy for them to get the tourist visa? My girlfriend is not rich. Do Khmers get routinely approved or rejected? She wants to see Kyoto.

Re: Has anyone taken a Khmer to Japan?
I enquired about this at HIS Travel in Aeon Mall 1. If you buy a tour from them they will put in for her visa. Either she has to show evidence of intention to return or you can be her guarantor. The tours, however, are expensive. It's much better value to travel independently. Apparently, for an independent travel visa application, she must put in a very detailed itinerary that accounts for every hour of every day. The visa fee is not expensive. I seem to remember she may need to show $3000 in her bank account.
The advantage of the low fee is that you can do a reapplication after they tell you what more they need if the first one is rejected. You can download the form on the embassy website, it is quite simple but remember to put in that very detailed itinerary.

Two worlds travel company will make the visa smooth for your gf. They will prepare all and tell you what to do and what to bring and what to say at embassy. I made Japan visa last three months and it took about 3-5 days! Paying is around 100$

Re: Has anyone taken a Khmer to Japan?
Friend of a friend recently tried to accompany her boyfriend to Japan. The visa request went wrong, but the reason most probably was that she referred to him as her husband (as many Khmer ladies will do even when not formally married), then could not produce his home address. As the guy is married back home, he did not supply her his home-address for obvious reasons and therefore it was not believed he was her husband - and of course he isn't so this could have been valued as a lie. She is fully aware of his married status and accompanied him on previous trips to Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia - but are never seen together in any pictures. In order to get a visa on her own merits, she had to show a bank-account with $5000 in it. She did not have that amount of money in her account at the time and the boyfriend can only send her relatively small amounts of money out of fear his wife might discover the mistress so could not help her out that way. She owns her own house in SHV worth many times this $5K, but I am not sure whether it was requested or offered as alternative 'collateral' to the $5K requirement. In the end they just went elsewhere.
Re: Has anyone taken a Khmer to Japan?
Not what you are asking but:
Relatives of a Cambodian friend went to study in Japan. They were then able to work in Japan. Since then they have been able to stay in Japan permanently.
I have asked Cambodians if they want to leave Cambodian and live in another country. Some would like to study in another country, but almost all would like to come back or stay in Cambodia to help improve Cambodia, or be near their family.
The girl with the relatives in Japan puts a huge amount of effort into her studies, and would like to leave Cambodia and live in another country. She is a top student. She speaks English in a town where very few people do. I told her Australia would be better. But it is difficult for Cambodians to go to Australia.

The actual visa fee seems to be 110,000 riel, ($27). Maybe the tour company pockets the difference!
