The CEO of Covid-19 vaccine maker Moderna warned Wednesday that the coronavirus that has brought world economies to a standstill and overwhelmed hospitals will be around "forever."
Public health officials and infectious disease experts have said there is a high likelihood that Covid-19 will become an endemic disease, meaning it will become present in communities at all times, though likely at lower levels than it is now.
Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel appeared to agree Wednesday that Covid-19 will become endemic, saying "SARS-CoV-2 is not going away."
"We are going to live with this virus, we think, forever," he said during a panel discussion at the JPMorgan Healthcare Conference.
Health officials will have to continuously watch for new variants of the virus, so scientists can produce vaccines to fight them, he said. Researchers in Ohio said Wednesday they've discovered two new variants likely originating in the U.S. and that one of them quickly became the dominant strain in Columbus, Ohio, over a three-week period in late December and early January.

The Headline should read "The world will have to live or die with it"
So if even the developer of a Anti Covid 19 Vaccine confirms that Covid 19 will NOT go away, why bother getting vaccinated with a Vaccine that is developed in the fast lane and not yet proven to be totally trustworthy ?

Translation: "the world will have to pay for our vaccines forever"

Obviously he is right. There have been viruses for thousands of years and they hang around forever in one form or another. The only thing different this time is the hysteria.
Re: Moderna CEO says the world will have to live with Covid 'forever'
There is very little long-term thinking surrounding this pandemic. It's about time someone starting talking about the new Covid era. There is a strong sense that everyone is simply waiting to be vaccinated and when enough people have had the jab, the virus will simply go away. This is wishful thinking at best, and it's time those in charge starting laying down some truths, so good on the CEO for starting the conversation.
Obviously nobody can be sure how this will all play out, or what the world will look like in 5, 10, 20 years from now, but we need to prepare for the fact that we will have find a way of living with this virus, rather than relying on a vaccine that hasn't even proved itself against this strain, let alone future strains and mutations.

None of the vaccines stop you from contracting Covid, but just stop you getting sick from it. So he's right, it won't be eliminated once we're all been jabbed. I imagine everyone's kids will be needing a jab for it in future along with their other vaccinations from now on. Maybe a better vaccine will come along in the future that stops its spread.

The virus itself won’t go away but the prospect of hospitals being overwhelmed beyond capacity will.xandreu wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 1:34 pm There is very little long-term thinking surrounding this pandemic.
