Should prostitution be a normal profession?
Amsterdam's Red Light District, long a centre for sexual liberation, may soon face some big changes that are sparking debate about sex work elsewhere.

20 April 2019
Amsterdam’s Red Light District – with its winding alleyways filled with crimson-glowing windows where women attract passing customers – has become not only a tourist destination and cultural icon, but also a high-profile example of a place where safe, legal sex work has been practised for decades.

But that might soon end. Dutch parliament is currently preparing to debate the legality of prostitution in the Netherlands. With the industry facing opposition from both the Christian right and feminist left, sex workers in the Red Light District are under pressure to protect their right to work.

Could these debates lead to big changes in sex work around the world? And how could that affect the jobs and lives of the people in the industry?

Once they realize they will lose income from the 21% VAT the prostitute has to charge to the client they will forget all about this idea.

Prostitution and brothel keeping have been legal in New Zealand for quite a while and the profession of sex worker is regarded as a legal occupation.

It's much better to be honest about it instead of pretending that it is not happening then making criminals out of people for just wanting to have sex which is a human need.

It helps as Kammekor said, with the collection of taxes, and can prevent the spread of diseases as brothel owners must provide health care to their workers.

Legalization also lessens the chance of police corruption.

The laws regarding brothel keeping were passed by a left leaning female prime minister and feminism is strong there.

Prostitution is still illegal in UK, however in some towns and cities, there are slowly cropping up "designated areas" for sex workers to ply their trade in relative safety.
