A tale of 2 Burger Kings.

Today I went to the Burger King here in Phnom Penh Cambodia. I was met at the door by a young lady who graciously smiled and welcomed me while opening the door for me. A man from the counter greeted me from an empty lane, made possible by 5 people working individual lanes, and took my order perfectly (including customization). I was then given a number and ushered to a seat, while my food was later delivered to me. After the meal I simply got up and left, while a worker swooped in to clear away my trash and prepare the table for the next customer.

A significant time ago now, I remember visiting a Burger King in the United States. I opened to door myself, stood in line for 10 minutes to get to the 1 open register at lunch time, gave my order, filled my own drink, picked up my own condiments and napkins, stood and waited for my food to be ready, carried it to my seat, then cleared my own table when I was finished.

But American Burger King workers think they somehow deserve $15 an hour? And people here complain that the Khmer have a shitty work ethic?

I love how many do gooders are in Cambodia talking about injustice and underpay while there face is buried in a hookers tits and enjoying possibly the must unregulated and least taxed country in Asia, all the while living in BKK1.

For some reason I imagine you lurching through the door, listing heavily to one side and crab-staggering up to the counter, blinking blankly for a few moments with drool starting to trickle, before declaring, "I WANT TO SEE THE KING!"

No, this was before my dentist appointment. And I actually didn't go drinking last night for a change.

After that excellent service and meal "you simply got up and left" ?
You did a 'runner'?
And now you're posting about your exploits on the internet?
Unbelievable!
CEO should start a Phnom Penh scammers section and your name should be the first thread!

Fast food is one of the best paying low-skill jobs in Cambodia and the industry has witnessed no strike action.

Sure, why not? The lower standards of service in the US is due to a lack of staff not because the quality of staff is lower.

It is just down to market forces and that , IMHO, is how it should be, survival of the fittest. Simple evolution, if the business model works the business will come in through the door, if it is opened by someone or not. This is just simply a fact of life in the real world of forums... <cough> sorry SORRY !, in the retail food marketplace.

 What have I just said !
