Moving to Cambodia?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Moving to Cambodia?

Post by Okie »

Hello guys,

I gave most of this information in my intro. I am 62 years old. University educated and have a bit of savings. I have been to Cambodia 3x and have spent time in the Philippines, Vietnam and Laos. My deceased wife was Lao but had been here in the U.S. since she was 8 years old. I hold a level 4 English teaching certificate certified by the Australian government.

Any information about living in Phnom Penh would be appreciated. I might move to Battambang until the schools re open. I really like it there.I retired last August.

A few questions?

Does an American have to go to a Cambodian consulate to obtain a visa? Do any of you see at anytime a relaxing of the $3000 deposit? I can pay it but would rather not if possible.

I have a small by American standards pension.

Thank you a lot for your help

Yes. So coming over in short term is a no-go I think.

Yes, eventually. But the trend worldwide is in the opposite direction.

Small pension and small savings might be difficult to live on in Phnom Penh these uncertain times.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

By small, I meant about 30k usd and $850 usd a month pension. Also when the schools re-open I have a BBA, 150 hour Australian gov't certified TEOSL and some teaching experience
