Mama's a thief

Some kids are better off not having mothers especially when they get to the stage of stealing their kids money. My 9 year old has been saving 5.000 and putting it in her piggy bank, she writes it in her book.
We went away for two nights and while we were gone
the mother broke open the piggy bank and took all the
money. She bought a new piggy bank so the 9 year old can still save money .

GUESS WHO is PISSED OFF.

How can I educate kids in to doing the right things in life when their mother ?????

You need to replace the money mamma stole and explain to your daughter that even mammas sometimes don't think properly. You also need to ask if your nine year old feels any way responsible or believes she has done anything wrong. If she does, you need to reassure she hasn't, and then tell her how proud you are of her and all she's been doing.

Since the start of this year 2019 I raised her daily allowance from 5;000r to 10;000r and she some days saves 5;000r and puts it in her piggy bank. By looking through
her book there was about $10 in there, but it's not about how much money, it's the principal of it all. Saving money, taking money that is not yours, and the lowest form of stealing , which is taking off your own kids.

It's not the first time that this has happened. Several years ago I started a joint account with her older sister and put a few extra dollars in it for her. The mother asked for the visacard password number from the daughter and took out what little money that was in there.
Sometimes it makes me want to give up.

It might be instructive to keep in mind that in this culture,by and large, children are seen as a commodity. And to varying degrees, mothers will want to see a return on their "investment" and will feel quite entitled to it.

Though I've never seen it happening to a 9 year old. But you don't have to look farther than the Riverside trinket peddlers to see examples of parents pimping out their kids for whatever pocket change they can scrounge.

I think, especially in poorer, rural areas kids are taught that they are duty bound to support their mothers once they are able. When ever "able" is, depends on how shiftless, lazy and greedy the mother is, I suppose.

Duncan, now you can teach her not to trust anyone. Even your own mother.

Into the piggy bank put pieces of paper with 5000 riel written on them or monopoly money. Put the real money somewhere where mummy can't find it. Trust nobody.

Sir Duncan...TBH I think you have your western hat on thinking that a khmer child here can have their own money. As UT said, YOU hold onto the money on her behalf.
