Gossipy Kampot expat teachers are fighting again

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Saw this on the Kampot Noticeboard yesterday, where it was up for a few hours before being deleted.

Yeah. And now he's publicly called out the Bunly dude as making a mistake, he'll likely never get reinstated at best, and more likely receive a defamation lawsuit.

I know Roman, he’s always seemed like a really nice guy. He ran an awesome hot pot restaurant in SNV.

Sam Rainsy seems to be sued rather easily and frequently. According to one article, I found the highlights of which are

° Max fine of $2500
° Payment plans aren't always a thing so one could face jail time if they can't pay the lump sum
°All they have to do is prove that such libel tends to affect others and you can face charges for compensation so even though criminally you might face only a $2500 fine for your criminal ways compensation could be extremely pricey. In Rainsy's case he faced a million dollar damages claim.

Really it looks like some people/organizations use defamation as a weapon

I recommend you read this article if you are really interested it was a short and informative read https://thediplomat.com/2017/01/the-rea ... n-charges/
