Welfare checks at Sun and Moon

Place continues their high level of service. Missus was sick yesterday, so I put a the hotel’s ‘Do Not Disturb Sign’ outside the door.

In the morning, housekeeping came by and knocked on the pretex of not understanding what the sign meant - ie, clean room or do not disturb.

By the afternoon, she was feeling better and we got ready to go to ACE. Got a phone call from the front desk. Not just a single ring attempt, but non-stop. Nice lady asked how was everything and if I would be ready for housekeeping to come and clean the room in 10 minutes. I told her 17 minutes.

I know that some would consider the place a total violation of privacy. I saw it as the hotel was proactive - trying it’s best to avoid being on the CEO news blotter under the title another barang bites the dust, body discovered a week later after the smell drives guests insane.

And the hotel staff left some extra towels despite a late housekeeping cleaning.

How did you come to this number? It seems oddly specific. I think most people would round down to 15 minutes or round up to 20 minutes...but 17?

I'm going to give this a shot today. I think I'll request taxi pick-up to the airport at, say, 8:36. We'll see what happens!

It was probably 7:13 or something and it triggered the OCD part of his aspie brain.

It cleans at even minutes. It puts the lotion on its skin. It does not know pain.

They're doing welfare checks to make sure the guest hasn't had a Viagra-induced heart attack or left a dead hooker under the bed, as the hotel is located on Street 136 in the sleazy red light district. There are roughly 500 hotels in Phnom Penh, I don't know why a guy traveling with his wife would choose Sun & Moon.

Is it? I didn't realize that, lol.

FFS newkid, first Larry's now you dishonor your new bride by booking accommodations smack dab in the middle of flesh-trade central?!?

I can picture your first evening in the hotel...perhaps in the throes of a blissful, post-coital afterglow, you lovingly pour your new life partner a glass of Chardonnay and softly beckon her to join you out on the veranda, as the night air is uncharacteristically pleasant.

What romantic, captivating scene should reveal itself to this young, starry-eyed newlywed as she steps outside to join her conscientious mate?

Oh, nothing more wondrous to the eye than a hideous cauldron of loud, drunk, blathering Aussies, shrieking ladyboys, and Khmer women, dressed in a manner that oozes hedonism and would make Caligula blush.

Perfect atmosphere for a respectable couple, newkid. I'm sure your wife was not feeling awkward in the slightest.

Well done :thumb:

I thought he was saying that the Sun and Moon were starting to issue cash to the less fortunate! :D

A welfare check is a check distributed by the government to people whose low income places them below a prescribed living standard called the poverty line. Only qualifying applicants receive benefits and each program has different requirements from recipients.

Could have been much worse. A friend of mine worked as a tour rep in the med many years ago and a honeymoon couple got stuck together( I believe the medica term is vaiginissimus). the local tv crew came to film them being taken out of the hotel, still joined under a sheet on a gurney. According to said friend this happened 2 or 3 time s a year :-)

Occupational hazard working in honeymoon hotel. :plus1:

On an obscure note, if you step out of the Sun & Moon turn right and first bar you come to is a gay bar. Turn left and left again into st15 and the same thing happens...

Any hidden meaning in this or pure coincidence?

Very obscure, which begs the question of how you came to know this?
