An unknown foreigner is accused of beating a popular deaf and mute bartender Chan of The Golden Pine Bar in Da Nang, Vietnam to death and then fleeing the scene.
The death of Le Ngoc Chan, the 36-year-old man in question, has gone viral on social media, with thousands of shares and demands that whoever killed the man be brought to justice.
Reports said that multiple people from Golden Pine Pub and Simple Man Pub on Bach Dang Street, Hai Chau District were involved in a fight in the small hours of January 1.
Chan, who was deaf and mute and working for Golden Pine, was injured and taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
He hailed from Dai Loc District, located in the central province of Quang Nam.
Chan passed away at the hospital on January 5, survived by his pregnant wife and their child.
A GoFundMe account has been started to raise money to give to Le Ngoc Chan' pregnant wife:
Many older expats will remember Chan as the young kid from Bread of Life, whilst many newer expats will know him for his unlimited energy as the host with the most at Golden Pine Bar, either way most people remember his unstoppable attitude to life, Chan was not dealt the best hand but lived his life to the fullest, a deaf kid who could somehow overcome his hearing impairment, and skip right past the Vietnamese language barrier and have a conversation with many of us in some type of universal language that just seemed to work.
Chan was involved in an incident where he was apparently struck and suffered head injuries on new years eve and passed away on the 5th January.
Regardless of the situation and circumstance around this tragic incident Chan left an impression on many of us over many years, and has left a family behind.
I have started this GOFUNDME at the request of many expats, all the money will go directly to Chan's family, we will run it for a few weeks and make sure the money is available before TET.
We are in contact with some mutual friends of Chan and soon will be in touch with family members to discuss how best to distribute the funds raised. This we will report back on when appropriate.
We will monitor the donations and raise the limit as we progress... I know many of you know him personally ,, Don't make me come looking for you
I think we can achieve 100mil VND for his family in the next few weeks.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AUD not USD
