Car recalls in the KOW...

I am aware that a lot of the Toyota cars in Cambodia are originally from the USA. This leads to the question of what happens when there is a safety recall. What prompts this is that I had to have the airbags on my Toyota (In USA) replaced due to the Takata shrapnel recall. I am suspecting that there is no formal recall/fix of dangers on cars there, thus leading to lurking dangers on cars there? Has anyone ever heard of any recalls of any type taking place in Cambodia. Makes me wonder if I should always sit in back when taking taxi to other cities the next time I am there.

Any comment or information that anyone can share?

It's more than just a few Toyotas.

The Camry's and Lexus found here don't use the takata alpha airbag, so no risk.

Interesting.... looked at the list and did not see my Toyota Seqouia on it. I know that it had been recalled because I had the airbag replaced about 8 months ago. BUT..... found this

looks like the replacement airbag is now being recalled :( ..... thanks for the tip-off list, caused me to further research. I lucked out seeing your list and doing more searching... thanks.

BTW... if you look at the sticker on the bottom of the hood of many of the Toyota's over there in Cambodia, you'll see they are actually mfg for the California market (not to say they were sold here). I saw many when I was there last.

For the record... I love Toyota's (and Honda's).... can't stand American cars (but like their trucks).

Tundras, Tacoma’s and Sequoas are all made in America.

Now the airbag shitshow has spread to more Honda's :( - Luckly my wifes 2016 isn't on the list.

Also.... Lexus in Vietnam, just hit the news.

The reason I posted the original thread is when visiting last year the Toyota Camry WAS imported from the states (look under the bottom of the engine hood, most times will say US/California EPA info). I doubt if any of the MANY cars grey market imported there have had the airbags replaced.... Would not be a fun day to get in an accident in the Kingdom of Wonders and get a face full of metal shrapnel.

Does anyone here drive a Toyota in Cambodia, want to take at look under the hood and report back? Thanks.

A lot of the cars are wrecks that are bought and repaired over here for a fraction of the costs of good cars. Some may have reclaimed titles that are not relevant here anymore. From what I have heard, the Khmer are pros at polishing a turd. As for recalls, later model low khm cars rarely have that kind of thing anyhow.
