Keep quiet and observe

This is a part of our Cambodia forums to chat about anything Cambodia-related. This discussion forum is at the top of our site because it's usually the busiest part of the expat community chatter with random topics on just about everything, including expat life, Khmer politics, Cambodian blogs we have or have come across, or whatever else our members want to discuss. Whether you're an expatriate, tourist, Cambodian or random traveler just passing through South East Asia, you are welcome to talk about anything or start new topics yourselves.

Keep quiet and observe

Post by Forktongue2 » Sun Sep 02, 2018 6:05 am

I have a few friends in Phnom Penh and one in particular, living here 20 years, told me only to read forums but not to contribute. You only get hassle, he said. Wise words? .! I have followed his advice but sometimes you want to help or say what you want to say. I was a lifetime banner from kh440,like many,I suppose, that put me off.
CEO seems less dictatorial, but there are ex 440 people like me who want to input occasionally. We can just stay on the sidelines and observe.!

P.S. It would be interesting to know how many people got banned under KIR.

Here's a thought...grow the fuck up and stop taking advice on what to do from others. It's an internet forum for fuck's sake. Post if you want to post or don't post if you don't want to post. It's not that big a deal. Jesus farking Christ almighty.

A bit related but I sometimes wonder whether a similar approach might be wise with regard to making anti Chinese posts if you are an expat in Cambodia. Given the close ties the 2 countries have, would the local authorities take exception? Lots of instances of ppl being picked up off facebook for example for making negative political posts or girls dressing immodestly and they get a re-education chat with the police. Presumably these days they can track your computer's address (unless you use a VPN?)?

If the FBI cannot track laptop locations how are the locals doing it?

VPNs are cheap, for anyone who wants to be a bit more secure on the internet these days.

That at hides your activity from Internet Service Providers, if that's what you're concerned about.

I was banned by KiR. As you can see, it made me very cautious about posting here.

Tracking ppl down via Facebook (which they are probably reported by someone on their friends list) is very easy vs. A forum with usernames. They would at the very least need to talk to mods for ip address, track it, prove it was you, etc...
