Friction Between Sihanoukville Populations

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

With the massive influx of Chinese nationals moving into Sihanoukville recently, it is not surprising that there has been some friction between the newcomers and the locals. Some incidents, mostly minor until now, have been reported on social media.
On 23 July 2018, a Cambodian posted about a fight between a Chinese woman and two Cambodian women in Sihanoukville. When the neighbor tried to stop the women, a Chinese man advised them to sort out the problem at the police station, saying " Do not attack each other in my Macao Shanghai city".

Nobody seemed to know what caused the argument exactly, but according to an account named " Neamneang Ouy Advisor",the two Cambodian women stole an electric cord from the Chinese woman.

Macao Shanghai city".

I have heard this a few times now where Chinese are referring to Sihanoukville by this other name. Anyone else heard this "Macao Shanghai city" reference?

The only one I’ve heard is “West Port”, which is what it’s Chinese official name is.
