Night Club Noise Inflation

Nova club on street 214 was a noisy club when you were inside it. After many months of reno, it has now reincarnated as Raqia Republic. Same style of music(?) but it is now audible from 200 metres away (the bass anyway). I stepped inside out of curiosity and it was pretty insane. I doubt whether the Khmer staff who work there will have much hearing left after a few months of that. I'm guessing that bass speakers have got a bit better and cheaper in recent times.

Isn't Raqia owned by the scammer who got jailed for ripping off an Okhha's wife for millions?

Recently the whole street was closed off for a week funeral ceremony for one of the bigger guys who has a house a block away.

Whatever Raqia does will probably be resolved soon enough. The family is vocal when something disturbs them.

Last time I passed by, Raqia in 102 was closed. It was a good club imho, nicely fitted out and OK music that didn't demolish your ear drums.

Thanks Hanno, yes I know a case where the sangkat installed a noise monitoring device in a complainant's house. That club was then told to improve sound-proofing and to turn it down. The problem, however, is it slowly creeps back up because those f*cking DJs (who bob up and down with their headphones round their necks behind the obligatory apple laptops) cannot stop themselves from going to the max in that kind of club. Meanwhile, at the new Raqia Republic in st 214, I noticed they have turned off the big flashing light show outside and turned down the volume. I am guessing they pissed off the residents of the hiso Maline Apartments which is located dead opposite.
I was chatting to the manager of Vito Club, he was saying Khmers are going off the clubs with the big noise. I hope he's right, if only for the sake of the staff who work in them.
