Currently live in Phnom Penh but will be moving to village in about a year (electricity is being installed now.)

Was thinking to get satellite for internet when move but current internet service (opennet) has been very unreliable lately so thinking to get satellite now and move the dish when I go.

Question; I do not care about TV service. Does satellite service provide internet and then wifi service for the home and grounds?

Only thing I could find searching our forum is several years old. Truly appreciate any comments - do not want to buy a dish and subscribe to a service on a salesman's promise "No Problem" and then find out no or slow internet service.

when i am out in the sticks i just use metfone in my tablet and use that as a hotspot.
plenty enough for skype,whatsapp and downloading tv series

Have you checked 4G coverage by various providers in the village? You could get by with (for example) Smart $2/week for 10GB. Latency on satellite internet is not great.

I don't think there will be 4G in 'the village'. 3G at best, maybe even less. I live in a village too, and I use two separate phones as a 'hot spot'. One with Metfone, the other with Smart. Sometimes the service on my 'default hotspot' is crap (Metfone), then I change to Smart. For FTP I also use Smart, Metfone is crap for that.

I am not sure if internet through a satellite will be cost effective, but that's up to you I guess. If you really are a power user, relocating to a village might not be a great idea.

Satellite will drop with rain or heavy cloud. Also as you will be doing back channel via satellite it will crawl

As others have said. It is unlikely you will get 4G in the village, you should be able to get 3G though.

As far as I am aware there is no satellite internet available..... yet.

Has anyone tried a mobile phone amplifier? Maybe on top of a long pole? All you need is 4G.

4g or 3g will depend on what masts you have near your village. Satellite internet is 1 way. Your request for a page goes out over normal cable\telephone and the page itself is transmitted over sataelite. Not sure if anyone still uses them as we have moved on. I believ you can get routers now that will aggregate your 3g/4g and or normal line. So in theory if you got 2x 2mb sims you would get 4mb.
