used car buying guide??

I read a Cambodian used car buying" how to" guide on one of the expat forums a couple of years ago but now can't remember where I saw it. Does anyone know?

It is probably out of date by now. Small new cars are safer, not as expensive as they used to be and less likely to get stolen.
if you went to one of the sales where they seel the imports out of the container, or the areas where they glue 2 or 3 cars together to make 1 you really would not consider buying a used car in this country. A lot are accident writeoffs that are no allowed to be put back on the road in the States. If it is originally from europe it may be ok, because badly damaged vehicles have to be scrapped

I think ak87 did reviews on a bunch of cars. Not sure about a buying guide. This forum or the other, can't remember.
Free vin checks can tell you a lot, and 10 bucks for full check is worth it before making a deal.
Test drove a crv that looked spotless. Drove straight, nothing immediately obvious underneath or in the engine pay. Free VIN check on the spot showed a 60 mph head on impact.
Everything seems hideously expensive due to the inoort taxes. Cars that are no more than 2k aud in Australia Australia are 8k usd here..

Including import taxes? What brand?
I cannot remember exactly. I think it was Chrysler. Mazda had 1 for 15k. It was advertised about a year ago i think, maybe 18 months. The government changed taxes which used to penalise small cars so I was told. About 2 years ago i was looking for a truck with a cab and went into a few dealerships. Toyota had 1 for $28,000 new all in. Mazda was more expensive at $36,000. Ford are going to assemble some cars here and the chinese are coming in.
