I think I've introduced myself. I am Frank, UK and Oz, wife is Kanya,Thai and Oz.
So I went solo to Siem Reap and ,OMG, what a difference after 13 years since I was last there.
My family (Australians) came to visit Angkor Wat, I live near the Cambodian border, 5 hours and I was there.
I told them they would be bored after one day.......wrong....great place.
A good hotel room, full service and swimming pool...18usd
Good bread, and wine at affordable prices.
Foot massage $4
I loved it, my feet were tickled by fish for $2 with a beer. So much investment has gone into this country.

Thailand, with its present govt can't compete. Shoot your foot off. Offend farang, I must report every 90 days.
I've invested 3 million baht in this country and I can't own anything. My wife's children are now Oz citizens with all the rights that bestows.

As a result of this visit I am a little unsettled, is Cambodia a police state, do you feel welcome, are you a walking wallet?

I have a farm here but can leave it to others to control


What is life in Cambodia like

I wonder why so many westerners use cambodia' a third world, corrupt , poverty stricken, poor country as a goto place to make there problems disappear?

I need to know more,Thailand destroys itself too. Always someone else to blame, us farang, evil bastards aren't we. A curse on them but quick to take the Yankee dollar for a touch of pussy.

I doubt you would feel much better living here though.
I have 10 police officers at my house every 3 to 4 months to check up on me. I don't have a problem with it since they're always very friendly but it happens here too.

Haven't had a thai police man or immigration official at my door since back in '89 when i was accused of being a drug dealer
Thailand survives, they are great at re inventing themselves and they have learned,
better to bend than break...

Can you tell more about that? What's their excuse for coming? Do they hang around until you give them enough for a few beers?

I have lived here more than 20 years and everything has been great, never any problems. For me Phnom Penh is a great place to live. The only issue I am finding is that over the last two years road conditions in Phnom Penh have got very bad and getting around gets risky. If you have a car it takes forever to get anywhere, if you have a motor bike it is quicker but you might die!

Still don't know exactly why. I ask them every time, why they come so much since they know my visa is good for another 8/6/4 months or whatever but they told me it's their boss who tells them to check up on me. They always ask me if I still live alone so maybe they're just worried about me lol. They're always friendly but it was a bit intimidating the first time 10 uniformed men showed up here to be honest. And no I never give them any money nor do they ask for it. I always offer them something to drink but that's about it. And they always take a lot of pictures of me and the house as well. And I usually end up with 5 new phone numbers from them since its not always the same cops that come. All a bit strange but I'm used to it now.
