China's plans (for Cambodia and SEA)

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. China's plans (for Cambodia and SEA)

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Like it or not, China is a major influence in Cambodia, and this is set to continue. Other countries in the region are also increasingly reliant on China for economic aid.
A couple of articles here:

China's Plan to Buy Influence and Undermine Democracy
18 October 2017
By lavishing infrastructure dollars on illiberal governments, Beijing is supplanting American soft power.
The rise of China’s economic influence in the region, paired with diminished U.S. criticism on human-rights issues, has helped pave the way for a hardline agenda among regional governments, who also now stand to benefit from playing two of the world’s major superpowers off each other.

Am I the only one that can see all this sooner or later ending for China? All the money now coming out of China for ahem, investments, laundry facilities. How much of this is going back quickly? Long term I think they will still be everywhere but less growth overseas.

China 5 trillion more in debt than US.

How are you going to enslave the populace if you can't saddle them with insurmountable debt?

Oh the IMF. They are the last organization who's predictions I would trust.
China also have $6/7 trillion in foreign currency reserves, not including gold.

"China's Plan to Buy Influence and Undermine Democracy."

First plan (buy influence) is easy. But how will they carry out the second part?
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

"They're relying on Donald Trump to do it for them.

Highly unlikely they'll have to look that far afield.

Washington, D.C. and Beijing is approximately 6,927 Miles
Beijing and Moscow is approximately 3,600 Miles.

You're right Putin is much closer :D

The US (and the West) has always been an unwavering supported of democracy and human rights all over the world... Not saying I like China, but the track record of other countries doesn't all fair much better.
