Audio can now be recovered from soundless video...
This means that audio surveillance can now be done with pretty much any object setting in plain sight of the room where a conversation is happening... kinda spooky.
They do seem to be making the project fairly open source... which is cool (rather than DARPA just closing the lid and hiding it in their vaults for fed use only). But still fucking spooky.

And once it's out I'll definitely be getting my hands into it... some potentially cool audio recoveries to be had with something like that.

?
I love tech. I also respect it and see easily how it can be misused in many cases. Example, most laws say that filming from outside of a domicile requires no legal warrant so long as the location of the camera isn't trespassing. If you can then recover the audio from that recording, say from the blinds/curtains they drew to protect the conversation from eavesdropping/video surveillance, you have a wiretap/bugged location without the need for a warrant. Cool and scary at the same time.

Yeah, but fearless leader built it and the only result from it will be the whole world smelling burnt microwave popcorn for 3 days.
