i was absolutely shocked to find out that 'Otres Corner Bar', (who advertise themselves as 'last hippie standing') has a racist door-policy
went there last tuesday with my friend from the states, got some beers, no problems. about an hour later, my Khmer friend came to see me, only to be told that they DONT ALLOW KHMER PEOPLE IN THEIR BUSINESS !!! ???
my friend is not a thug, he works in the powerplant and showed up in his car, dressed in a nice shirt.
this is an absolute disgrace, and i will never set foot in that racist hippie joint again (didnt even know hippies could be racist)
note: the place was completely empty, it was just me, my friend and some racist hippie staf members (especially the wannabe 'security guy' who had the balls to defend their 'no khmer allowed policy)

If this is true! These people need to realise they are a guest in this country. Just as well the the Khmer immigration doesn't have the same mentality as the owners and would be bouncer.
Weird... If its true its awful and I really don't understand how this is possible! One of my khmer friends who works in Otres 1 as a waiter, used to go often to Corner bar to meet us, when i lived in Otres. And it was just few months ago...
Was the racist hippie security guy a Khmer or a white guy? What was his explanation for the basis of the policy. We should at least hear them out.

Did you ask why Khmers are barred and did he refuse to say? He should at least give a racist explanation with appropriate stereotypes, it's common courtesy. What about Khmer-Americans, Khmer-Australians, are they allowed? Khmer women? Nigerians? We need clarification.
He didn't give any "racist explanation" because he's not racist... He is doing his job and he has a good reason to act like that. I met khmer people many times at corner bar.
Saying no khmer allowed is not racist? Imagine he said 'no blacks, or no jews allowed'? We were sitting in the back, the security guy came up to me to tell me my friend is waiting in front. When i asked to send him in he told me they dont allow khmer people. he stopped my friend when he was trying to walk in. Then they told us we could sit at the small table in the front, but not inside or on the beach.
Oh and the security guy definitly didnt know my friend. And sure as hell he isn't a trouble maker, a serious guy with a serious job who is always polite.
They might also have had problems with local motodops and tuk tuk drivers sitting inside who weren't customers. I don't know. Sihanoukvlle is weird. Many years ago I hired a motodop for the night and had him take me to Fishermen's Den as the first stop. I go up inside to the bar, and a few minutes later the motodop comes in and sits inside the bar to wait for me. Awkward. Brian threw him out.
I went to Score bar a few months back and saw about five Khmer guys at the bar, which was unusual. Do you know what they were doing? Sitting there for hours monopolizing the bar and using the wifi and watching the EPL football matches on the big screens while nursing a single beer.
I'm not saying Otres Corner Bar should ban Khmers, but I think they probably have a reason why they think this policy will make their bar more profitable.
I have another theory. I'm full of theories. Maybe the bar wants to prevent skanky Khmer hookers from hanging out there and also prevent creepy old white dudes from bringing their Khmer hooker girlfriends in there, because creepy old white dudes with young Khmer women disgust all their regular backpacker customers. So they ban all Khmers, because if they just said "no Khmer women" that would be sexist.
Seems weird, there must be an explanation. I went in there a long while back with my friend a Khmer girl, and the owner who was Russian (I believe still is) welcomed us, came to our table, talked to us in a very friendly fashion. Maybe we should give him a chance to explain.

Dave Blond Skelcey Do they ban Khmers or not? If they do, how is it not racism? If some black people cause trouble in a bar in New York or London and the bar responds by banning all black people, is that not racist? They should just ban specific customers who are drunk or disruptive.

Wouter Simens that policy has nothing to do whit Racism, is cause Khmer can not afford it in Foreigner Bars. There is a lot Khmer Location were he can go.
Frankly saying, many places on Bali and Thailand had "No locals" policy in entertainment venues, now I think not anymore as domestic tourism is a big contributor. I guess this bar modelled a face control of the night clubs where the door guy has a full discretion who is allowed and who is not. Also, in Europe, there are many clubs "locals only", no tourists. In Sihanoukville in 2017 probably not a wise business decision on "no locals policy" , as statistically more than half of tourists here are domestic tourists - but giving that arbitrary face-control practices that applied globally in night entertainment venues, is a norm, not much deviation here on "no locals" in this case. Hope you find another spot to hang out with your friend that evening.

1) since 1996 there is an National Act in power that Does Not allow any Cambodian to enter any Casino. - that's an example proves that we are far from being only ones who does it
2) There are plenty of other night places where you and your friends would be more then welcome to come in, such as Dolphins, JJ etc - you like the atmosphere there? Hookers, tuk tuk drivers and beggars... Try to relax over there...
3) We do have reasons behind this policy and one of the main one is - we don't want to do any sort of harm to a sensitive Khmer hearts...it's Asia baby and things work differently inhere
4) How can I be called racist for not letting asians in if I'm an Asian my own damnself?
