Bank for Khmer to open a small account

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Post by Otis »

I know a Khmer girl who has never had a bank account. She wants to open one w about $100. Can you guys recommend a bank that will not charge fees and otherwise try to screw her?

Acleda seems pretty popular amongst Khmer's. http://www.acledabank.com.kh/kh/eng/ps_desavingacc.php

I also have an account with them and have been fairly happy with the service so far, although I much prefer ABA for their comprehensive online banking.

I'd recommend Prasac. $10 minimum balance and 3/4% interest on the account so she might like to see the very little bit of money she makes on that being paid every month. That and the term deposit accounts they do and she might be encouraged to save when she is able. They also do Khmer Riel savings accounts with ATM cards.

They also have the quite a few ATMs and their money transfer service to the provinces I would imagine is quite good/cheap.
