From the Kampot Noticeboard:
"Be aware folk,
New scam came to Kampot?
Khmer guy between electric shop and ibis office (behind sokimex on durian r-about), being too much friendly, speaks perfect English, asking the very same questions - where from, how long been here blablabla. Saying he was deported from U.S. after living there for 23 years and trying now to sort his life out, doesn't know where to go, what to do, looking for job, asking for money "as much you can give from your heart, any amount".
Asked him what he was deported for - bank robbery. "But I didnt do it, the other gang did".
Nice looking watch (could be $5 from the market of course), gold ring, big phone, I offered him to go to pawn shop. -
"But that's all I got, watch is a gift from a friend from Norway, what I gonna do?"
Have seen characters like that a lot in PP, but looks like they are coming to Kampot now.
Or mby I'm just paranoid"
Doesn't sound like a "scam" to me, but bad news nonetheless.
