Can you identify this crop?

The lady has loads of it on the farm in Takeo. I'm told it is used as an ingredient for some kind of Chinese medicine. The Khmer word for it is "desplei" or "day-ply," which translates to land fruit. Anyone have any experience with this? What is the English word for it?

only a best guess.. polygonum multiflorum (or another polygonum), fo-ti in chinese.
have seen pics were it looks totally different, but also where it looks very similar.
