I thought the 70-75 #'s would have been a bit skewed more than they are.
They numbers for this decade do not bode well for a nation struggling to enter the 21st century.
A basically illiterate, self centered, aimless population. Corrupt to the core leadership. Ranks right in there with a few Central African nations. Ignorant poor sheeple are much easier to herd.
So what. Cheap labor forever.

Perhaps the best summary of Cambodia in a nutshell that I have ever read. Quite simply a country with no future with a delusional and tenacious fantasy that their legacy of Angkor Wat
still lies dormant, awaiting a future rebirth. The country is beyond salvation.

There must be some hope. Well, not about the corruption, but surely there must be some way for the people to pull themselves out of Pol Pot's abyss? Or has it just been the blind leading the blind since 1979 in a never ending cycle? He really fucked this place over.

Re: Population Pyramids of the World from 1950 to 2100
wages have increased markedly in the past 5 years.
lots of degree holders in the building side of things are doing increasingly well.
even factory workers are in short supply.
they can resign from one place on a friday and hire back on by monday, and base rate is 245 now.
impossible to find anyone for minimum wage

"That's very depressing." Yes, it is, but most posters here lead lives isolated from the rural poor and have little, if anything at all, to do with the urban poor. They speak little or broken Cambodian since they immerse themselves in the expat communities. They mostly have "a gentleman's understanding" of the Khmer culture. Writings by people like Mr. Thayer serve as a good wakeup call.
