Abbreviations in English

Post by prahkeitouj »

I always read threads here, but sometimes I have problem with my English include abbreviation in the forum. I think some words are not good, but at least I can understand what you are talking. And I don't want to ask the question again and again about what does it mean, what does it stand for? I'd be happy with your cotribution to help me to learn English language.
I'd like to know only words you use often in the forum and words that use often in our daily lives.

OK, let's start the other way round: Fri is not an English abbreviation.

Fri means Friday or friend? But not the right way to use it. I know only few words such as FYI and WTF.

Khmer use it as friend, which is certainly not English.

Which abbreviations baffle you? AFAIK? ROFL? BITGOD? FOMCL? PMSL?

Good thread, i hope i will learn something from it too. Actually there are so many abbreviation in English and it is always good to know them. I don't know many of them, but i know some of the abbreviation that had been used frequently in this forum.

AFAIK: As far as i know.

FTFY: Fix That For You

IMHO: In my humble opinion

TMI: Too much information

Lol: Laugh out loud

FFS: For fuck's sake, not FKK :) FKK is German means Freikörperkultur (Free Body Culture)

LMAO: Laugh my ass off

IMO: In my opinion

To be continued:
បើសិនធ្វើចេះ ចេះឲ្យគេកោត បើសិនធ្វើឆោត ឆោតឲ្យគេអាណិត។

If you know a lot, know enough to make them respect you, if you are stupid, be stupid enough so they can pity you.

All of the above are not abbreviations. They are acronyms.
