Magical Mystery Tour?

There has a been an explosion of driving schools in the last few years. Up until a month or so ago, I would see a western-type arrangement, the student and the instructor, obviously/understandably no one else needs to be/should be in the car.

But recently, it's becoming increasingly common to see 3 people in the backseat, the student, and the instructor.

What gives?

I'm guessing it's part of a scam by the schools, either the test is being used as a lesson for which they pay, or 4 people are getting the same test result, 3 of whom don't drive...

Anyone?

You must be blind Vlad. It's been that way for years.
In the back seat is the students family (back seat drivers).

No, not true.

All the backseat people I saw this morning, and previously, have been young, but old enough to take the test, it's unlikely that 10 or so cars I've seen all have exactly 3 siblings of the test-taking age, no?

Perhaps they're there to play loud Facebook videos, eat noisily, and provide the other usual distractions...

Give the trainee real life scenarios. I like your thinking SC.

Possible, but there are no people sitting on the roof, and the driver looks sober...

It's not possible they're just other students and they switch around during a long drive? Driving schools tend to do that.

^^That's how I learned to drive, not here though. We'd take 3 or 4 hour drives with 5 people in a car and would switch every 45 minutes or so. We'd get to observe the people driving and the instructor would use their mistakes to teach us as well. Wasn't much of a fun experience while you were learning, but it worked well...until they found I was prone to car sickness.

I think you may be right. Maybe they can't individually afford the full fee, so they split it.
