Why don't you go and ask at a butcher shop?

Never seen it used in any of the butchers here, they tend to package everything on polystyrene trays with glad wrap, or vacuum seal.

I've searched high n low for real butchers paper in PP to no avail.

I assumed the OP wanted it for arts and crafts purposes

Butcher shops? Where? All the meat I have seen is carried away in plastic.

But you're right, I should ask restaurants if they receive anything in butcher paper, then ask their suppliers where they get it from. Thanks for the idea.
