Cambodia plates on a Vietnamese motorbike

Post by lagrange »

I know foreigners are not allowed to register a second hand motorbike in their name, but what if someone rode a bike over from Vietnam and got a Khmer to get Cambodia plates on it - that would work, right? (asking for a friend).

Yes
But technically and legally, the bike would be in your friend's name. He or she would have to be a very good and honest friend.

Just ride it. You'll probably be fine. If you can't afford the slight possibility of it getting impounded, get a Cambodian moto. If you look into it, I think you'll find that many people are also just riding those around with the original Khmer owner's info attached to them. That's a common thing here. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you're in Phnom Penh and people there say it's a problem.

*Could have continued this in your last thread on the same topic. : )
Do you think the parents of baby boomers whined so much when the boomers started changing society? And yet the whiney ones like to call young people "snowflakes." Hmm...

I brought mine over from Vietnam about a year ago, and rode it quite a lot in Phnom Penh over the course of four months or so, in particular from the Russian Market area to the Riverside. Never stopped.
