Tomorrow I’m doing my first visa run since becoming single.

I was on a one-year business visa but didn’t renew that (for various reasons) and so tomorrow I’m doing a run to Poipet.

The travel agent advised me to return on a one-month business visa which I can renew for a few months. I’m almost at retirement age, which will be fantastic. (One of the few benefits of aging!)

I’m taking a bus tomorrow first thing in the morning and was hoping to return to Siem Reap in the afternoon, my agent didn’t seem to think it would be an issue.

I’d appreciate any tips, thanks.

have been reading on various sites that at poi pet that are asking for people to spend a night in Thailand so be prepared.
if not,
its nothing more than a shared taxi to the border, ( why bother with a bus to save ONLY a few $$) stamp out, walk across, stamp in, walk up stairs - stamp put, walk across border an stamp back in an taxi back to sr ( 2 1/2 hours each way.)

I’ve also been told to expect to spend a night, so I’m packing some work just in case.

As PR said, plan for an overnight stay if going via Poipet, they have been cracking down on foreigners making day trips/visa runs there.

When you return to Cambodia, avoid all the fixers who claim they can assist you for a fee, you don't need them. Just complete the Customs declaration form and the Immigration form, tick "Ordinary" Visa, ensure you have $35 exact change in your hand, don't let them bully you into paying more or in Thai Baht, stand your ground. Once you receive your passport back, double check that they have indeed you issued you an E-type Visa and not a T-type Visa, and that they have put an Entry Stamp in your passport also...do not leave the VOA counter and Passport control until you have done so.

I don't know how long since you were in Thailand, Roz, but I went for a short visit last year and it was really interesting to compare things over there to Cambodia. If you don't have to rush, why not spend a night or two in Thailand, and it will remind you of why you are here and not there.
Some things are positive and others negative, but it gave me a fresh vision to the answer of "why Cambodia".

it seems to be all borders that now require 1 night in Thailand. They are getting bored with visa runners and need money...
