My wife got car insurance recently and the people at Forte insurance company told her she is "required" to place the two Forte stickers they gave her on her car - a large one on the rear window, and a smaller one (with her policy information) on the front windshield/windscreen ("so the Forte red response team can identify her car as one of theirs in the event of an accident")

I read somewhere just now that less than 5% of drivers in Cambodia have car insurance, and it seems to me that it would be foolish of her to place the stickers on the car. Why advertise that you have insurance? Because scammers may claim that she caused an accident; or a policeman saying that any accident was her fault simply because she is the only one involved who has insurance; or someone jumping up on her car and then saying that she is at fault, etc.

Have any of you been told that you are required to place these stickers on your vehicle? She feels that she must do it or otherwise the policy won't be valid in the event of an accident.

Absolute BS. Not one of the 70+ units run by the company I worked for in PP had an insurance company sticker on them. (It was a car dealer business.) My gut says stick with your gut. You can't invalidate an insurance policy because you aren't showing the company name on your car. Check the small print of your policy documents, and see if it says you must display the stickers, just to be sure.

This ties in with what my contacts who have insurance say. the reason is that if you are insured the insurance company normally send someone to deal with the authoities on your behalf. Lets say yu roll your car and are unconscious. Mr plod arrives and sees forte sticker so he calls forte who immediatley approve and ambulance and off you go.Local agent deals with the police and hopefully its all sorted before you get out the ambulance. No sticker, no ambulance , you die. They were all told to put the stickers on the car so the policeknow straight away they are insured and act accordingly, but it was not portrayed as a requirement, just as a sensible thing to do just in case....

I also have forte. If you read through all the fine print you signed it does say sticker on back. It would suck to get in an accident and have your coverage denied just because you didn't want to put a stupid sticker on your car.

I still think displaying the sticker makes sense in a country where insurance is rar. No doubt forte can incur additional expenses if the authorities are unaware yu are insured.think of your holiday insurance. In the small print you have to notify them when youare injured and they will tell you where to go. if you do not notify them then you may be under no or restricted cover. So what happens when you have an accident and are unconscious? You may be taken t the most expensive hospital in ton because you are a foreigner, or you may be left at the roadside. Common sesne dictates you should carry a card with your insurance details and next of kin.I am not convinced it is a madatory requirement and cover is cancelled if you do not have the sticker, but even if it is I think its quite reasonable under the circumstances. Insurance companies are entitled to have rues to minimise their claims and your premiums

Still think OP has a point about advertising one's position as being insured, which seemed to me the more proximate point of his question. That said, if the T&C's say it has to be on the car, then so be it, as I originally stated.
