Foreigner riding a moto not registered in his name

With the new law requiring foreigners to drive a moto in their own name, has anyone had experience getting stopped recently on a moto not in their name?
What are the police involved to do? I'm sure practice differs from province to province, too.
I don't know if rented motos are excluded from this law, are they? If they are, who's to say you aren't renting it from someone, like a Khmer friend, who aren't required by law to have a moto registered in their name?

Do you have any details on this new law which I have not heard of? Does it mean I can not buy a moto and register it in my Khmer friend's name? I remember 5 years ago it was costly and time consuming for a foreigner to register as the owner of a moto which is why I always registered in a Khmer name. Is it still complicated to register in a foreigner's name? My motos have always been in Siem Reap so maybe different in Phnom Penh.

Of course nobody on an expat forum would ever admit to be being stopped by the police; all resident posters apparently ride too fast, are able to carry out "freshie boy" motorbike acrobatics, or just don't stop whilst giving the police the bird and flicking out 100 KHR notes for shits & giggles...
I happen to ride a moto registered in my brother-in-law's name as it wasn't possible to register a second hand bike in a foreigner's name since that moronic law was passed a few years back. I do however carry the ownership card on me, and have good enough Khmer language skills to point out the stupidity of the law, and enough in my back pocket for a can of Black Panther or two.

Amen to that!! As stupid a law as there is. But likely even that might not be true in the KOW!

Only new motos can be registered, used ones cannot. So, if you buy a used moto you cannot change its registration and must carry the original ownership card.

So, a case of never been registered before..

Correct. First registration in Cambodia is fine.

that regards registering a moto..... NOT riding one,
what about all the rentals out there??
The number of us using our wife's/gf, friends motos?
