Hello CEO community,

Going back home for a month, and a couple of people have asked me to bring back some Kampot pepper and "other interesting spices". Anybody have a good recommendation on a place in Phnom Penh that sells great quality pepper...and other things?

Thanks!

Go to Central Market.

Opposite the eating area, towards the centre of the building, there is a lady selling all the Kampot peppers, Black Red and White. Plus lots of other stuff too.

From memory they were about $4 a kilo for black and $7 a kilo for red or white. I might be wrong about that though...

hope this helps

That's the price I'd expect for Memot pepper, not Kampot.

Off the top of my head, I would price Kampot pepper bought at the market at around $15-23kg depending on the colour and size of the peppercorns.

Cue for someone to tell me that is too expensive.
FWIW, they say that the substandard pepper sold as cheap Kampot pepper is imported from Vietnam.

I am going there tomorrow, I'll check the prices and take a few picks.

There is a shop on 172, near street 13, that sells all the colours in fancy packaging and it is about 10 times the price of the market. They also had on offer a normal size pepper mill for $85. Yes... $85 for a $5 item. That told me all I wanted to know about them.

None of their peppercorns had passports either, so who really knows where this stuff comes from.
