Heinz Salad Cream
Anyone know where I can buy this.
Super Dooper used to stock it but none there now.
As always, many thanks in advance...

Re: Heinz Salad Cream
That sounds really gross. If its anything like mayonnaise, I make my own.
Apparently, the difference between this cream and mayonnaise is the ratio of vinegar to oil. A slight bit of experimentation and Bobs your uncle. (sort of more a ranch dressing, which this blog also has a recipe for)
30 second mayonnaise:

Was in bayon today but in jars not plastic bottles. Also had it (also jars) at super duper bkk1 near the big browns cafe

Seriously, the best mayo recipe is the condensed milk version, give it a try.
1 tsp hot english Mustard Powder or mustard
1 Tin Sweetened Condensed Milk
1/2 - 1 Cup white vinegar (depending on consistency you want)
Season with salt n pepper
Mix it together, done!
From there you can add whatever you want, ie. capers and gherkins for tartare... tabasco, lemon and tomato sauce/ketchup for seafood dressing...dill, parsley, chives, onion powder, garlic powder for ranch dressing, etc.

Re: Heinz Salad Cream
Are you talking about the liquid sugar that comes in a tin with the baby face (thick yellow liquid)? Or the normal one that's white? Didn't know they had a sweetened version. I fail to see how that would get thick.PSD-Kiwi wrote:Seriously, the best mayo recipe is the condensed milk version, give it a try.

Either way, making normal mayo is easy.

Condensed milk/sweetened condensed milk, same thing. Thickens when chilled. Give it a try sometime, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
When using as a salad dressing you only want a coating consistency, not thick and globby like that miracle whip shit that someone recommended to me recently, uuurgh!
Agreed, making real mayo is simple, but I've seen plenty of people fuck it up, haha.

Re: Heinz Salad Cream
I tried explaining that stuff to my wife, as I didn’t know the name. “In a tin, small. Tea something?” >blank stare< “It’s quite thick and we had some in the fridge” >blank stare< “Looks like spunk”
“Oh yes I know!”
“Oh yes I know!”
