Long distance private taxi prices.

While I started this post because I'm interested mainly in prices from and to Kep, it might be a good idea to share other long distance prices as well. The quotes seem to be wildly different from day to day, driver to driver.
So, 2 drivers here in Kep that usually charge $50 Kep - Phnom Penh that I use for my guests recently started charging $60 for that same trip. Their explanation is 'gas prices' & 'very busy'. I stopped using them and now use a PP based driver that does the same trip for $45, problem is I have to book him at least a day in advance which isn't always possible. Recently my partner took that same trip in a private taxi from PP to Kep for $30. He forgot to write down or ask the taxi's phone number unfortunately.
Are there any people here that regularly take a long distance private taxi from Phnom Penh, could you please share your prices? Much appreciated.

A good indicator is to look at what it costs in the bus. It should be similar in a taxi if the taxi is full.
What is a bus fare? $6? I have not done that trip for a couple of years.
If you get 5 passengers in a taxi, it may be $30, or $6 each.
You may be able to find a taxi company which is not going to rip you off. When you book, tell them how many passengers are traveling. Ask them to pick up other passengers first, so when they pick up your passengers the taxi is full. You may pay around $6 per person.
What may happen in reality. They may pick up your passengers, then make them sit in the taxi for a long time while they wait for other passengers. You may need to insist they pick up your passengers only after picking up the others.

I used to regularly have people travelling to my place in kep and the standard fare was $45 but the starting price for negotiations was usually $50 - $60. This was across a couple of different drivers and an agent who reresented many drivers.
Due to a busy workload I haven't had anyone coming down to kep via taxi for the last few months so can't say I'd the prices have changed. However road 3 is a nightmare now and the journey time has increased quite a lot so that may be influencing their prices.

Why you don't just book online? Through
Bookmebus it's always same fixed $55 or bit cheaper through
CamboTicket at $50 one way. The car is big SUV. Same day booking might be trickier though, but if it's not public holiday and you book morning, you should be able to to book for the same afternoon. Many times there are even discounts that you get 30-50% off.

I am interested to know, how many people get a taxi on their own, as opposed to traveling with a taxi full of people?
If it is full, everybody shares the cost, so it is cheap for each person.

Private taxi to SNV from PP costs us $50 one way.
PP to SR costs us $80.
We took a taxi to Preah Vihear from PP - it cost $250 return and we gave the driver something extra for two nights’ accommodation. The cost included driving to the temple as well.

We take a private taxi. We took a share taxi once and it was bloody scary! Four people in the front, two of them in the driver’s seat! We swore never again.

Lots of people rent a 'private' taxi so they aren't packed into a car like sardines.
Another benefit of a 'private' taxi is that they pick you up from wherever you are and deliver you to your hotel of choice. A shared taxi will just drop you off at some random central location leaving you at the mercy of local motos and tuktuks.
Plus, you don't have to waste time picking up and dropping off people along the way.
Plus, it's 'your' taxi, you call the shots. If you want a pee stop or ciggy stop then it's your call. Shared taxi won't do that.
Anyway, the thread is about 'private taxi prices', not 'how many passengers can be squeezed into one car in order to reduce costs'.
