What are some good convenient hotels in Phnom Penh that are near the airport to stay at while looking for residence the first few weeks in?

Why stay out near the airport for the first few weeks ? Just head into town. Riverside, 172, 130-136 areas, 278, basically all over town. Loads of cheap or decent hotels, depending on your budget, to stay at while you easily find something more permanent. No worries.

Unless you have a job near the airport there's not much reason to stay around there.

Maybe the OP has a different idea of what cheap is. Riverside hotels are what $20-$60 and airport hotels are like $5.

Thank you, that is very helpful information. Actually I'm asking because my flight gets in about 11:30 pm so I will need to get a hotel for the night straight from the airport and I'm looking for something close so I won't have to travel far with luggage and what not.

Also I am planning on moving for the long term. At least 1 year. So my question is...as far as luggage goes would you guys think that less is better? I know I'm going to need to get a tuk tuk because I have 1 suitcase but I ask because I don't want to be lugging around a suitcase all over town so I need to know exactly where I am going. Trying to get as much information as I can before I go my date of departure. Any tips, tricks, helpful tips you guys might have is greatly appreciated. I want my entry to be as hassle free as possible. Thanks in advance ^_^ Love, peace, and chicken grease

Book a hotel, let them know you will be arriving late. Walking to tuk tuk from airport and from tuk tuk to hotel is gonna be the same no matter where you are staying.

Edit: although personally I would get a taxi.

Get a taxi huh? Sound advice thank you. I would imagine at night a taxi is definitely more safe than going tuk tuk. I have heard read some stories on here

tuk tuk always works for me. Depending on what's important to you regarding hotel.....
Velkommen Inn on street 144
Mini Banana or Top Banana

you can google and get the info.. No need to book in advance, at least from my experience. I have had a few friends stay at Velkommen Inn and no complaints.

I don't suggest booking in advance...You never know what room they might give you and the place might look different then what you see online....You can just go directly to the hotel/guesthouse ..ask to book a room...and have them show you the room in advance, before paying

Personally. If you are going to get to the hotel at midnight or later I would suggest booking. even if only for one night in the area you are planning to stay. But each to their own

OP, yeah taxi is the best option at that time. Id say its a little safer (bag snatching and/or drunk drivers) download Grab/PassApp etc
and the taxi will only be around $8.
