Where to buy floor cushions / pillows, and houseplants

Post by Dangerous Dave »

I'm in the process of reclaiming my balcony and it's about 60% of the way to being a nice space, with the big missing pieces now being a few oversized floor pillows, and some houseplants. I'm sure the Aeon Department Store has both (I know for a fact that they have houseplants) but I'm assuming they're overpriced? Although they aren't on everything so there's that.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The houseplants at Aeon have been kept under artificial light so you can't put them straight into direct sunlight and from memory most of them are indoors and not really suitable for Cambodia's weather.

Also, be careful about making your balcony too green and be careful about putting your pots too close to the walls - I had a rat and her 8 babies move themselves into my pots and it was a nightmare to get rid of the fuckers.

Thanks! Any other places where I should consider getting an outdoor-suitable plant instead?

There are many plant shops. It depends what part of town you are in. I can recommend the plant shops at the corner of 163 and 360 for balcony plants. Having said that I have Indoor plants from Aeon that are still flourishing after 3 years.

If you're making some kind of hippy pad with these floor cushions, pillows, and house plants, don't forget the bean bags and you ought to get hold of a couple of these for good measure.

How about one near the north end of BKK-1? Say, 57 and 278? Not a florist -- I imagine those are much more expensive, yes? -- but something more like what we'd call a "nursery" in the States?

The shops I was talking about are more like a nursery than a shop. Small plants are around $2 . The largest plant I bought was $8, but I got it for a bit less by buying 2 other $7 plants as well for $20.

Some place nearer to me? I'm roughly at 57 and Sihanouk.

DD, I don't know if you have Facebook. Last night I had several attempts to post the link on here, but unable. Phnom Penh sellers. There's a Philippine lady selling up. Plants are mostly large in pots. Near monument.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
