Pets

I currently have no pets but once I am relocated I might want to change that. How common is having a pet in Cambodia? Are dogs and cats considered normal to have? Are more exotic pets allowed?

Of course you can have pets while you are here.

If you opt for a dog, keep it on a tight leash or this may happen: post338656.html?hilit=dog#p338656

It's illegal to keep wild animals. Aquariums are popular and some people spend thousands on a single fish. Many people keep Mynas and Rose-Ringed Parakeets and Lovebirds etc. Keeping reptiles or exotic mammals as pets is unusual.

It gets down to where you live. For example, if you stayed in a hotel, I doubt a dog would be welcome. If you rented a home in a village, you could have a dog.

The same goes for other animals. If you live in an urban shop-house, a crocodile might become problematic. If you have a big pond in the boonies, you could have lots of them.

Quite difficult to keep, crocs. The croc market has failed a number of times in Cambodia. Vietnam seems to have more luck.

Sure, it was just an example and I meant as pets rather than farming. I knew people whose crocs got too big in the city.

Contact ARC (Animal Rescue Cambodia ), they have lots of gorgeous cats and dogs looking for homes.

I know a Khmer guy who has an otter. Goes everywhere with him. He even takes it fishing!
