I want your broken toasters, hair dryers, heat guns...

Ask us anything. Cambodia Expats Online has a huge community of long-term expats that can answer any question you may have about life in Cambodia. Have some questions you want to ask before you move to Cambodia? Ask them here. Our community can also answer any questions you have about how to find a job or what kind of work is available for expats in Cambodia, whether you're looking for info about Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or anywhere else in the Kingdom. You're also welcome to ask about visa and work permit questions as well, as the immigration rules change often, especially since COVID-19. Don't be shy, ask CEO's community anything!

No, that's not the start of a Lady Gaga song, although that would be an interesting project.

I've not been able to source new nichrome wire for the project I'm working on, so I'm now looking at Plan B.

Plan B is to collect any unwanted toasters, hair dryers or heat guns and salvage the nichrome wire from them (it's the element wire that glows red and produces heat when powered) - what could go wrong, right?

If you're in PP and you have any of the three listed electrical items you'd like to donate to a good cause, please advise and we'll collect.

(I've already found the phosphates and shrapnel.)

(Kidding about the phosphates and shrapnel.)

I'd also welcome any leads on new nichrome wire, incidentally.

The only thing I know about nichrome wire is that some vapers use it to make their own coils. Maybe a vape supplier might have some. Good luck

Thank you, yes - that's been mentioned but it's a different thickness and would break under the strain I'm going to put to it.

I buy nichrome wire online to use in my micro satcomms project - www.myansat.com (I use them to tie down the solar panels during launch and then burn right through the nichrome wire to allow the panels to pop out).

I seem to remember that I either used dx.com or lazada. It was as cheap as chips.

However, TBH, using the wire from an old (or even new) hair-dryer is the easiest option.
